Is Headspace free? Prices, free trials and how to cancel
Not really. Headspace is free to download, but its help center lists no free tier inside the app. You get the whole library during a 7-day or 14-day free trial, and after that you need a subscription: the 7-day trial turns into a monthly plan and the 14-day trial into a yearly plan unless you cancel.
What’s free, and what isn’t
Asked “What’s included for free?”, Headspace’s help center points to the free trial, which unlocks the entire library while it lasts. After the trial, it suggests a subscription, or these free resources outside the app:
- The Headspace channel on YouTube, and Radio Headspace.
- The articles on headspace.com.
- The “Headspace Guide to Meditation” and “Headspace Guide to Sleep” series, if you have Netflix.
That’s the main difference from Calm, which keeps hundreds of sessions free in its app without a subscription (see Is Calm free?).
What Headspace costs
Headspace lists its 2026 renewal rates in its help center and notes that prices vary by region and may include tax. On an iPhone you pay through the App Store, which sets its own price for each country, so the price on the purchase screen is the one that counts.
| Where | What it showed |
|---|---|
| Headspace’s help center | Solo $69.99 (€57.99, £49.99), Family $99.00, Student $9.99, before tax |
| US App Store | Monthly Subscription $12.99, Annual Subscription $69.99, and Headspace Plus purchases from $12.99 to $94.99 |
The App Store list doesn’t say what each purchase includes beyond its name. Headspace also mentions Family, Student and educator plans and lower prices in some countries, and discount or gift codes only work when you buy on headspace.com.
How the free trials work
Headspace has two trials. The 7-day trial becomes a monthly subscription and the 14-day trial a yearly one; the purchase screen in the app says which one you’re starting. You aren’t charged until the trial ends, and Apple and Google allow only one trial per account.
How to cancel Headspace on an iPhone
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then Headspace.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
That stops the next renewal, and you keep access until the current period ends. Cancel at least 24 hours before a trial ends to avoid the charge. Headspace says App Store purchases are final and non-refundable, so any refund is up to Apple. If you subscribed on headspace.com, cancel in a browser at headspace.com/subscription/manage instead; a subscription from an employer or another organization simply expires.
Is Headspace in your language?
The App Store lists English as the app’s only language. Headspace’s help center says you can switch the app to French, German, Spanish, Portuguese or Mandarin under Profile › Settings › Language, and that you then see whatever content has been translated into that language.
If you just want ten quiet minutes
Headspace is worth a trial if you want a teacher’s voice and courses that build step by step. Its App Store privacy label lists nine kinds of data under “Data Linked to You”, including health and fitness, location and search history. If all you want is a short, quiet sit each day, Stille is free with every feature included: tap Meditate, listen to ten minutes of gentle sound, and a soft gong ends the session. There’s no account, no ads and no subscription, and its label says “Data Not Collected”. Stille has no spoken guidance, courses or sleepcasts, so it doesn’t replace what Headspace teaches. See Stille vs Headspace for how they differ.
