Stille vs Headspace: a quiet session or a guided library?
Choose Stille if you want to press one button and sit with gentle sound for ten minutes. Consider Headspace if you want a teacher’s voice, structured courses, and a broader library to explore.
Start with the kind of help you want
A meditation app can do two different jobs: teach you a practice, or make room for a practice you want to do yourself. Stille concentrates on the second. It starts a ten-minute sound session when you tap Meditate. You do not choose a teacher, topic, or duration.
Headspace describes a library of guided meditations, courses, and sleep resources. If spoken instruction is what helps you begin, that is a meaningful advantage. Stille does not offer spoken teaching or a course to work through.
| What matters to you | Stille | Headspace |
|---|---|---|
| Session style | Gentle sound, without spoken guidance | Guided meditations and courses |
| Starting point | One Meditate button; ten minutes | Browse or search a content library |
| Offline listening | All session audio included in the app | Download meditations in the mobile app in advance |
What Stille deliberately leaves out
Stille has no account, ads, or subscription. It chooses one of three bundled recordings locally and ends a completed session with a soft gong. Its fixed length also means it cannot give you a twenty-minute session or a short spoken exercise. That constraint is useful only if ten minutes of unguided listening is what you want.
Which fits your next ten minutes?
If you want to learn with spoken prompts, explore Headspace’s own samples. If you already know you want to sit quietly and would rather skip choosing content, Stille is designed around that moment. Our ten-minute meditation guide explains what an unguided session can look like.
